SIDC Latest 10.7cm Solar radio flux (F10.7) forecast

The forecaster on duty at the SIDC produces each day (nominal issuetime 12:30UT) a forecast of the F10.7 radio flux as it is expected to be observed over the next 3 days (the day of issue included). The forecast is based on a combination of statistical techniques and expert judgement on the evolution of active regions on the solar disc including regions rotating onto or off the disc.

SIDC f10.7cm flux forecast

The f10.7 cm flux forecast and the flare forecast are produced by the SIDC RWC (Regional Warning Centre) for space weather predictions. The values are produced daily and issued nominally at 12:30UT, historically within the URSIGRAM message. The forecasts are based on a combination of statistical techniques and expert judgement on the evolution of active regions on the solar disk including regions rotating onto or off the disk.

Every day the space weather forecaster makes f10.7cm flux predictions with 0, 1 and 2 days lead time. These values are stored in a database and made available through an internal API using JSON output. Prior to April 24, 2013 these values were only distributed and stored within the daily SIDC URSIGRAM, hence the archive only provides values from that date onwards. The historic forecasts have been verified in a verification analysis published in Devos, Robbrecht and Verbeeck, "Verification of Space Weather Forecasting at the Regional Warning Center in Belgium", Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 4 (2014).
